World Cup’s Half Full

Based on the article below, it’s a good thing FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke is not a surgeon. “I know the patient lost all his blood but “there is always time to learn.”  I think he’s been watching Monty Python’s Life of Brian a little too much, “always look on the bright side of life…”

Why is he wearing a soccer uniform? Does he know he is not really a General? Can you imagine Mitt Romney, Peter Ueberroth or David Stern for that matter appearing at a press conference in a jersey?

I hope the World Cup succeeds and that at a minimum France loses, badly. But didn’t anyone think in selecting S. Africa that they might have to tweak their marketing plan? Do a little demographic profile to see just how many households actually have computers…that work…with internet. Did no one see Invictus and scene of the team building relationships with the town’s folk? Apparently not; why? I guess because they spend all their time watching the Life of Brian.

BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE

(Words and music by Eric Idle)

Some things in life are bad

They can really make you mad

Other things just make you swear and curse.

When you’re chewing on life’s gristle

Don’t grumble, give a whistle

And this’ll help things turn out for the best…

And…always look on the bright side of life…

Always look on the light side of life…

If life seems jolly rotten

There’s something you’ve forgotten

And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing.

When you’re feeling in the dumps

Don’t be silly chumps

Just purse your lips and whistle – that’s the thing.

And…always look on the bright side of life…

Always look on the light side of life…

For life is quite absurd

And death’s the final word

You must always face the curtain with a bow.

Forget about your sin – give the audience a grin

Enjoy it – it’s your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death

Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life’s a piece of shit

When you look at it

Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke, it’s true.

You’ll see it’s all a show

Keep ’em laughing as you go

Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life…

Always look on the right side of life…

(Come on guys, cheer up!)

Always look on the bright side of life…

Always look on the bright side of life…

(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)

Always look on the bright side of life…

(I mean – what have you got to lose?)

(You know, you come from nothing – you’re going back to nothing.

What have you lost? Nothing!)

Always look on the right side of life…

500,000 WCup tickets unsold, empty stadiums loom

JOHANNESBURG – World Cup organizers say 500,000 tickets are unsold and fear “tragic” empty stadiums at soccer’s showcase event.

FIFA says Friday the tickets would go on sale to the general public in South Africa on April 15. Organizers have less than two months to sell nearly a quarter of the tournament’s total match tickets to avoid empty seats.

Organizers conceded their online process was not suited to local fans, who are generally poor and not used to buying tickets on the Internet. FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke says “there is always time to learn.”

Organizing committee chief Danny Jordaan says it would be “tragic” for the host country if stadiums were empty and urged fans to “go buy now.”
