TEABAGGING REVISTED

I’m watching “Larry King Live” last night and discovered that Larry is still alive as he got a little punchy with the teabaggers appearing on his show. The first guest was some guy who fashioned his wardrobe from Wall Street 1 and spoke like a WWF wrestler; the second a demurely attractive woman with professional communication skills. These guests haphazardly claim generic but comprehensive violations of the US Constitution by known and unknown persons along with the vested power to save our country from catastrophic undoing.

Now I understand the Baggers don’t like the deficit spending but I am a little unclear as to its constitutional implications. Economic and social impact, I get that. But how on God’s green earth (at least until “drill baby drill”) does the amount that Congress spends per its Constitutional authority violate our beloved US Constitution?

Or maybe it’s the 4th Amendment they claim as being violated. Unreasonable search and seizures as applied to health care? War Powers perhaps? Claiming the White House is declaring war on the American people without Congressional Authority? No wait, I’ve got it now, the feds are creaming the 2nd Amendment’s right to bear arms by busting up Michigan militias hell-bent on killing cops and bombing funerals.

Faux Constitutional violations aside, if these guys can solve our country’s ills, more power to them. But pardon my cynicism if I don’t get too excited about a bunch of guys in tents claiming that the non-US born President is a terrorist looking to turn our country into Stalinist Russia.

In spite of the silliness, the discontent is real and cannot be ignored. However, you have to sort the real from the imagined and the practical from the well, let’s just say impractical. Not easy but that’s what real leaders do. While others grab their Warhol minutes, those with any sense will look to DaVinci.
