According the AP, Mike Huckabee criticized his fellow Fox News Channel host Glenn Beck for calling him a “progressive” for supporting Michelle Obama’s anti-obesity efforts.
Apparently being a progressive is really, really bad if you want to win the Republican nomination for President. I got the whole “don’t call me a liberal” thing but was a caught unaware of the ban on progressiveness. After all, Dictionary.com defines progressive as:
Favoring or advocating progress, change, improvement, or reform, as opposed to wishing to maintain things as they are, especially in political matters.
With things so great the way they are today, I can see the danger with improvements or reform. But then Beck says of Huckabee that, “he is someone who doesn’t want to ‘disrupt big government.’” Now, wouldn’t that make him anti-progressive? Or did I miss something there?
Of course, Huckabee’s fuming over the accusation. How dare someone perceive him as a person intent on making thinks better? Clearly, that’s no qualification for the Presidency.
